Forgive me but I am going to say that word. The one we often avoid. The one that makes us come up with excuses faster than we did as teenagers and got home late.
Exercise.
WHY do I avoid “it”? I always feel better once I’ve done “it”. I know “it’s” good for me. I know that if I do “it” faithfully, eventually I will even look better.
Still, I avoid it.
My doctor told me I HAVE to do “it”.
Finding an incentive was proving hard. Apparently adding years to my life wasn’t enough… I needed something shallower. Something less serious. Something less significant…
I needed something to take the drudgery of this exercise punishment and make it cheerful – happy – FUN.
So –
Can you get any happier than this?
I’ve found that once I’ve put on my magic shoes – with magic matching socks that even the most complicated exercise is fun and happy and cheerful!! - okay, so maybe complicated isn’t the right word. I really only walk on a daily basis. But I walk FAST…
I’ve learned that if you feel good about yourself you can tackle ANYTHING!
So, I am faithfully doing “it” every day (well, almost every day…) But - with a cheerful. happy. fun heart.
I just turned 59 and have a similar thing going on. I need incentive to do most everything and it has to be fun or I won't do it at all. I LOVE your shoes! They make me smile. :) Good luck with your journey into better health. Cindy, visiting from Ultimate Blog Challenge on FB.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Cindy. I'm a reader and I love to blog. Getting up and moving has proven to be a challenge!!
DeleteLove it! The blog post, not necessarily THAT word and all it includes! ;-)
ReplyDeleteBUT...I must say, I am finding motivation to exercise again, with the accountability I've found in some support groups on Facebook. I'm participating in some challenges this month (abs and arms) that involve doing increasing numbers of reps of different exercises all month.
I've also got the incentive of knowing I will be in Punta Cana in a month, at my daughter's destination wedding at a beautiful resort!
Now that would be incentive! I hope you have a wonderful - fun - memory filled time! And look good, too!!!
DeleteWhen you said 'that word', I thought sure you were going to talk about snow! Between walking the dog and yard work, I've been getting plenty of exercise. There is plenty you can do to get exercise - especially in the Midwest!
ReplyDeleteThere is! When I do yard work or something that keeps me active, I don't "run" to get my walking in. (pun intended) But sometimes - walking is all I've got! But in spite of my whining - I like it! :)
Deletethanks for posting this! i've always thought of exercise as BLECH!, but i know that i need to be healthy and take care of this body God gave to me. i like your "magic shoes" ~ maybe that'd help me too! and yes, "with a cheerful. happy. fun heart."!
ReplyDeleteThe shoes help, Stephanie!! Trust me!!
