Lead Hill, Arkansas

DSCN4376
A few weeks ago, The Husband picked up this sign at an Estate Sale. So once we got home we did some research on Lead Hill.

Lead Hill, in Boone County, Arkansas, has a mining heritage which dates back to the early 1900s. The old mining town was buried under the waters of Bull shoals Lake when the lake was created in the early 1950s. At that time, residents moved to the new Lead Hill, located on higher ground.

Because Lead Hill is situated on the shores of Bull Shoals Lake, recreational activities abound with water sports. Families go to the lake as often as possible to fish, swim, boat and simply enjoy the outdoors. Branson, MO., the Live Music Capital of the U.S., is less than an hour’s drive to the northwest (37 miles).

The town’s current population is 271 (2010 U.S. Census).

None of this information really matters to anyone not interested in traveling to Lead Hill – but since I have the sign hanging on my fence, I was interested in the town! Maybe someday when we visit Branson, we will drive the 37 miles to see Lead Hill in person!
