“Hater’s Gonna Hate”

If you are on any social media you have heard this statement. Or maybe you were walking down a hallway in school or even on the street and you heard it.

I’ve heard (read) it several times and realize that there really are people who hate but  the only times I’ve heard it – or  had it directed towards me, I didn’t have hate in my heart or even in my mind. I just happened to make a statement that was disagreed with.

I Googled “Haters gonna hate.” This is what I found:

“A phrase used to acknowledge individual superiority in the face of negative external accusations. Can be repeated twice for emphasis. Often accompanied by a strutting walk away by the offended party.”

Making a statement or verbalizing a belief that you don’t agree with doesn’t mean I’m making “negative external accusation” – it just means we don’t agree.

When did it become such a horrible thing for people to disagree with one another?

Actually, let me reword that – it’s horrible if a conservative Christian says something that isn’t “politically correct” or that is in disagreement with those of other faith or no faith.

If, in my belief system, I don’t agree with you, all of a sudden I’ve been labeled a “hater.”

This offends me. My belief system teaches me to love not hate.

A meme I saw on pinterest
Tolerance

I have a friend, Debbie S, who often says, “if you agree on everything - one of you is lying.”  This is so true. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me – but I don’t expect to have to agree with others on everything to be kept from being called a “hater” either.

Some New and Not So New Things.

I have wanted a Hoosier Cabinet since 1973. There was just never a “right” time to search for one and to buy one. A few months ago, the Husband and I saw one at an Estate Sale and put a bid on it – it wasn’t in the best of shape, we didn’t get the bid.

Since then I’ve done some research on them to be more familiar with what I wanted knowing we may run across another one some day.

Well, that day was last Thursday. We were at “Becky’s Estate Sale” and saw this one. I fell in love! The Husband was much more pleased with the condition so I talked with Becky and she made me a GREAT deal.

On the left are plates I got from my Grandma Doane and my Grandma Elsie. The turquoise plate and plate holder I purchased at “Paramount Antiques.” The hanger and items on the right I have purchased over the last couple of years from estate sales. I will continue looking for just the right items to finish filling it up.

This is now in the corner of our office. The Husband cut out the wood and I put the letters and numbers on them.  I have a picture for over my desk, given to me by my friend, Ellen, but need to get it framed.

Marrying at our age has been a wonderful experience. Merging all of our stuff has been an “experience!” But we are working it all out very well together and it has been F.U.N.

These Are a Few of My Favorite Things

A few months ago when asked what my favorite thing to do is – I answered “Blogging.”

Then last month I hit a block. I can’t seem to think of anything to blog about and don’t even want to take the time to think of something. I do have several of the “blog challenges” printed out – just for ideas. They are good ideas, I just can’t seem to write.

What I have been doing that are a few of my favorite things:

We continue to host and lead our Life Group. One of my VERY favorite things!

I’ve been going to Ladies Bible Study at church. We did a study on Hebrews by Lisa Harper and I really enjoyed that.

I’ve continued with my trips to Oklahoma to visit my parents – and every few months throw in a visit to Jonathan in Weatherford.

We’ve planted more flowers in the back yard and I’ve been watching them grow! However the last few days have been refreshingly cool and not much growth has occurred.

I have read more. That may be part of the “problem.” Last year I didn’t read as much but I wrote more. I have a hard time disciplining myself for both. Need to work on that.

We also continue our Thursday and Friday Sale-ing. We have so much fun doing that!

And on and on. Just my regular life giving me everyday excuses not to write.

I’ll hang in there.

Favorite Quotes

I collect quotes in a journal. To pick my favorite is almost impossible. So I just chose a few to put on today’s post!

“Grace was in all her steps, heaven in her eyes, In every gesture dignity and love.” Melton

“Be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.” unknown

“But dear me, let us be elegant or die.” From Little Women

“Science without religion is lame, Religion without science is blind.” Albert Einstein

“Always read stuff that will make you look good if you die in the middle of it.” P.J. O’Rourke

“Don’t borrow trouble.” from Jamaica

About places:

“… a tumbleweed-tossed West Texas town so flat you could stand on a cow chip and see New Mexico.” Ron Hall

“It’s an everybody – knows- your- business place where schoolchildren dream of traveling to exotic places like Lubbock or Abilene.” Ron Hall

“Oklahoma is a flat place where you can see a long way. Today, there’s not a cloud between Canada and the Gulf of Mexico so you can see really far. Today’s the kind of day you can stand in a pick-up bed facing West and see yesterday going away. Then you can look over your shoulder and see tomorrow coming.” Joe Hornsby

Day 1 of 31 Day Blog Challenge

Day 1: Self portrait and 6 random facts about yourself

January 2014 (1)

1. I was soooo shy as a child (still am sometimes) that when I would go to my piano recital’s I would never be able to go on stage to play. I would panic and always cry. I never did play in front of people.

2. My favorite activities in high school were Drama, working on the school newspaper and the yearbook. I was editor of the yearbook my senior year and my good friend Kris was my Co-editor. We Had So Much Fun!!!!

3. I am easily discouraged. If I want to accomplish something and don’t have Lot’s of positive encouragement – I never very seldom accomplish my goal.

4. I lived in a boarding house the summer between my junior and senior year of high school while attending Beauty College. My friend Cheryl and I shared a room. We had fun but now as I look back on those 3 months, I realize how young we actually were. (I am now 61 - so you know that was a few years back!)

5. When the husband and I first got married, it took me several months to make myself at home. It was such a huge adjustment for me. Another town, another house, another man!!! I was in culture shock. But he was so kind and so easy going about everything. It wasn’t long until I was comfortable.

6. I ran the 5K in the Oklahoma Memorial Run in 2009 with my friend Kelly. That was an experience I greatly enjoyed and will never forget it!
