Do You Like Your Name?

Brenda Kay.

I’ve never really hated my name. I’ve never really loved my name.

One time as a pre teen, I asked my Mom “Why” she named me Brenda – I was going through a phase of really not liking my name. She told me that they had chosen Denise or Brenda and they finally decided on Brenda. Of course, at the time I thought Denise was a much better name for me! (the grass is always greener concept!)

Interestingly, I’m often called Barbara. Especially as an adult. I guess I look like a Barbara.

So my name has always been just that. My name. In my mind, nothing special – just my name.

Over the years I have become Mom, Grammy, Mammy and once in a while Grams.

The husband calls me Honey, Babe, – many terms of endearment but mostly these two.

But.

When he says “Brenda.”

“Hmmm?”

“I love you.”

At that moment, I have the most beautiful name in the world.

“Hater’s Gonna Hate”

If you are on any social media you have heard this statement. Or maybe you were walking down a hallway in school or even on the street and you heard it.

I’ve heard (read) it several times and realize that there really are people who hate but  the only times I’ve heard it – or  had it directed towards me, I didn’t have hate in my heart or even in my mind. I just happened to make a statement that was disagreed with.

I Googled “Haters gonna hate.” This is what I found:

“A phrase used to acknowledge individual superiority in the face of negative external accusations. Can be repeated twice for emphasis. Often accompanied by a strutting walk away by the offended party.”

Making a statement or verbalizing a belief that you don’t agree with doesn’t mean I’m making “negative external accusation” – it just means we don’t agree.

When did it become such a horrible thing for people to disagree with one another?

Actually, let me reword that – it’s horrible if a conservative Christian says something that isn’t “politically correct” or that is in disagreement with those of other faith or no faith.

If, in my belief system, I don’t agree with you, all of a sudden I’ve been labeled a “hater.”

This offends me. My belief system teaches me to love not hate.

A meme I saw on pinterest
Tolerance

I have a friend, Debbie S, who often says, “if you agree on everything - one of you is lying.”  This is so true. I don’t expect everyone to agree with me – but I don’t expect to have to agree with others on everything to be kept from being called a “hater” either.

Some New and Not So New Things.

I have wanted a Hoosier Cabinet since 1973. There was just never a “right” time to search for one and to buy one. A few months ago, the Husband and I saw one at an Estate Sale and put a bid on it – it wasn’t in the best of shape, we didn’t get the bid.

Since then I’ve done some research on them to be more familiar with what I wanted knowing we may run across another one some day.

Well, that day was last Thursday. We were at “Becky’s Estate Sale” and saw this one. I fell in love! The Husband was much more pleased with the condition so I talked with Becky and she made me a GREAT deal.

On the left are plates I got from my Grandma Doane and my Grandma Elsie. The turquoise plate and plate holder I purchased at “Paramount Antiques.” The hanger and items on the right I have purchased over the last couple of years from estate sales. I will continue looking for just the right items to finish filling it up.

This is now in the corner of our office. The Husband cut out the wood and I put the letters and numbers on them.  I have a picture for over my desk, given to me by my friend, Ellen, but need to get it framed.

Marrying at our age has been a wonderful experience. Merging all of our stuff has been an “experience!” But we are working it all out very well together and it has been F.U.N.
